Course Description:
This advanced Chinese painting course is designed for young artists aged 8-14 who have a foundational knowledge of Chinese painting and are ready to deepen their skills. Over 10 weeks, students will explore more complex techniques, subjects, and compositions, building on the basics to create more detailed and expressive works of art. Through a mix of traditional methods and creative exploration, this course aims to inspire and challenge students, helping them to refine their artistic voice.
Students will begin by reviewing essential brush techniques, ink control, and composition principles learned in previous courses. From there, the course will focus on more intricate painting subjects such as detailed floral compositions, more dynamic animals, and landscapes. Students will also be introduced to advanced color blending and layering techniques, learning how to add depth and dimension to their paintings.
In addition to freehand (写意) style painting, students will explore elements of Gongbi (工笔) – a more meticulous, fine-line style – allowing them to refine their attention to detail and precision in their work. Lessons will include a deeper exploration of traditional Chinese painting topics such as bamboo, birds, flowers, and mythical creatures, encouraging students to combine multiple subjects into harmonious, balanced compositions.
Throughout the course, emphasis will be placed on creativity, expression, and mastering the subtleties of Chinese painting techniques. Students will work on progressively more challenging projects that require them to think about the flow and balance of their compositions, the movement of animals, and the natural elements of landscapes.
The final project will allow students to create a complete, large-scale painting that combines all the techniques learned throughout the course. This will give them the opportunity to showcase their skills and personal artistic style.
By the end of the course, students will have gained a deeper understanding of traditional Chinese painting and refined their brushwork, ink techniques, and compositional skills. This advanced course will not only enhance their technical abilities but also encourage greater self-expression, fostering a strong connection to Chinese art and culture.
