Fang Yucheng’s journey in the world of Chinese painting began at the age of 8 in China. Born with a natural passion for art, he immersed himself in Chinese painting from a young age, exploring its nuances and traditional techniques. By the time he was 11, Fang expanded his skills to include Chinese calligraphy, further deepening his connection to the rich cultural heritage of his homeland.
In 1999, Fang entered Nankai University in China, continuing to develop his artistic knowledge while pursuing formal education. His academic journey soon took him to Singapore, where he was awarded a prestigious scholarship from the Singapore government to continue his studies at the National University of Singapore (NUS). It was here that he branched out into a successful 13-year career in IT, a field that allowed him to explore the technical world while still nurturing his passion for art.
However, the call of Chinese painting remained strong. Eight years ago, Fang made a bold decision: he left his full-time IT career behind to dedicate himself fully to the art form he loved most. With years of continuous learning and honing his craft, Fang began teaching Chinese painting at the renowned Goodman Arts Centre, before later moving to the Achievor Art and Culture Centre, where he continues to inspire budding artists.
Fang specializes in a variety of Chinese painting styles, including landscape painting, flower and bird compositions, animal portrayals, and the delicate Gongbi technique. He is also well-versed in the Lingnan style and the Boneless painting style, which emphasize the fluidity and expressiveness that distinguish Chinese art. His teachings have attracted nearly 600 to 700 students over the years, from different countries and diverse backgrounds, making him a respected figure in the international art community.
Beyond his role as a teacher, Fang Yucheng is a dedicated artist in his own right. He spends his time creating his own series of artworks, blending Chinese painting, calligraphy, and seal carving. His personal mission is to share his profound knowledge of Chinese art with the world, fostering greater appreciation for this ancient art form.
Fang Yucheng’s journey from IT professional to master of Chinese art is an inspiring testament to his unwavering dedication to his craft. As a teacher, artist, and cultural ambassador, he continues to make significant contributions to the promotion of Chinese art, ensuring that its beauty and traditions are passed down to future generations.
In an increasingly digital world, Fang Yucheng’s story serves as a reminder of the enduring power of traditional art and the deep fulfillment that comes from following one’s passion. His journey reflects a harmonious blend of discipline, learning, and love for an ancient art form, making him a true master of Chinese painting.
